Mid-Level Drupal Engineer, AI-Enabled Platform Support

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Design, create, and execute custom modules (e.g., custom entities, views, forms, workflows, notifications, and reports) to enhance Drupal functionality based on project specifications.

• Facilitate multi-site development practices and manage environment-aware configuration effectively.

• Configure and theme Drupal sites to ensure a smooth and responsive user experience across all devices.

• Implement and troubleshoot authentication and access strategies, including external auth/SAML integrations and role-based permissions.

• Assist in developing state-machine-driven workflow logic, forms-step experiences, queue/cron-driven processing, and event-subscriber behavior.

• Contribute to enhancing search and reporting functionalities (Search API, Views, Views Data Export, bulk operations, and operational dashboards).

• Integrate third-party services and APIs to improve application functionality and user experience.

• Identify and apply performance enhancements to ensure fast, efficient, and scalable Drupal applications.

• Conduct code reviews, offer constructive feedback, and mentor junior developers to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement.

• Provide ad hoc support for general project planning and technical design: Assist with scheduling, ensure development aligns with formal process reviews, prepare and deliver testing-related presentations, and support overall project execution as necessary. Assist in defining requirements, design processes, managing release branches, and following SDLC workflows (development, test, release, and production readiness). Aid in development and documentation processes, utilizing AI coding assistants responsibly to enhance implementation, test generation, impact analysis, and root-cause investigation while adhering to security and compliance requirements. Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, code generation tools) to expedite coding, debugging, and documentation while ensuring responsible and secure use of AI in alignment with organizational and federal guidelines.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in Drupal and PHP development.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Expert-level proficiency in Drupal 8/9/10, including the development of custom modules and themes.

• Strong understanding of PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web technologies.

• Experience with Drupal APIs, Drush, and Composer.

• Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js) is advantageous.

• Understanding of DevOps practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.

• Knowledge of usability/accessibility standards for user interface development to produce code compliant with Section 508 accessibility; experience with development tools that support this process.

• Practical experience with Cloud technologies such as AWS and Acquia.
