This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Submitting medical claims to insurance providers, including Medicare and Medicaid.
• Collaborating directly with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to ensure efficient claim processing and payment.
• Reviewing and appealing any unpaid or denied claims.
• Timely processing of patient and insurance refund requests while posting payments and/or denials from insurance remittances.
• Assisting patients in obtaining the necessary information to apply for charity/Medicaid or establish a payment plan.
• Utilizing coded data to generate sub claims for insurance companies.
• Staying informed about current billing regulations and trends relevant to assigned billing types.
• Aiding patients in confirming benefit information and supporting patient scheduling and account setup.
• Ensuring that weekly, monthly, and quarterly departmental objectives are achieved.
• Securing referrals and pre-authorizations as necessary for procedures.
• Conducting eligibility and benefits verification for treatments, hospitalizations, and procedures.
• Inspecting patient bills for accuracy and completeness, while gathering any missing information.
• Preparing, reviewing, and submitting claims through billing software, including both electronic and paper claim processing.
• Following up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframe.
• Verifying the accuracy of each insurance payment and ensuring compliance with contracted discounts.
• Contacting insurance companies regarding any discrepancies in payments when required.
• Identifying any secondary or tertiary billing insurances.
• Establishing patient payment plans and managing collection accounts.
• Updating billing software with any rate changes.
• Adhering to all aspects of HIPAA and the Privacy Act.
• At least one year of experience in medical billing.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Internet usage.
• Knowledge of chemical dependency and its impact on individuals, families, and communities is preferred.
