Lead SCADA Engineer, Cybersecurity

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical elements of Electric Substation SCADA and cybersecurity system design deliverables.

• Ensure that designs adhere to NERC CIP, IEC 62443, IEC-61850, DNP standards, relevant codes, and industry best practices.

• Generate functional design specifications for complex SCADA and cybersecurity systems across multiple locations.

• Direct the project design team to produce high-quality products within budget and on schedule.

• Review and coordinate detailed designs from vendors and manufacturers.

• Synchronize SCADA and cybersecurity design with protection and control, primary design, site management, commissioning, and field teams.

• Create Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing procedures and take part in FAT and SAT.

• Develop engineering estimates for SCADA systems.

• Calculate equipment quantities and costs for proposals.

• Engage with the Project Engineering Manager regarding material costs, schedules, engineering budgets, safety, and quality impacts.

• Liaise with clients and inform the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager of any potential project variations or risks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.

• 7 years of experience in Engineering.

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in designing cybersecurity systems for utility, renewable, and/or industrial HV and EHV substations.

• Willingness to travel 20% of the time, including internationally.

• Adherence to company travel and tax policies.

• Understanding of NERC-CIP cybersecurity standards and guidelines, IEC 62443, or NIST.

• Familiarity with SCADA network architecture, including HMIs, gateways, and RTUs.

• Proficiency in SCADA protocols such as OPC and DNP3.

• Experience in building scalable, highly available distributed networks.

• Knowledge of IEC 61850-based digital substations, including PRP, HSR, and RSTP.

• Acquainted with cybersecurity equipment like VPNs, firewalls, routers, and NIDS.

• Knowledge of telecom equipment and standards such as MPLS, multiplexers, WAN, LTE, and 4G.

• Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng, or willingness to obtain certification within two years.

• Legally authorized to work in Canada or the United States.

• Compliance with applicable U.S. Export Control Laws and citizenship/authorization requirements.

• Successful completion of a background investigation.

• For positions based in the U.S., successful completion of a drug screening as applicable.
