Lead SCADA, Cybersecurity Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead and execute the technical elements of electric substation SCADA and cybersecurity system design deliverables.

• Ensure that designs adhere to NERC CIP, IEC 62443, IEC 61850, DNP, relevant codes, and industry best practices.

• Develop functional design specifications for intricate SCADA and cybersecurity systems across multiple locations.

• Guide project design teams to deliver high-quality outcomes on schedule and within budget.

• Evaluate and align vendor and manufacturer detailed designs.

• Coordinate SCADA and cybersecurity design efforts with protection and control, primary design, site management, commissioning, and field teams.

• Create Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing protocols and participate in both FAT and SAT.

• Prepare engineering estimates for SCADA systems.

• Estimate equipment quantities and costs for proposals.

• Liaise with the Project Engineering Manager regarding material costs, schedules, engineering budgets, safety, and quality considerations.

• Report on project opportunities and risks to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.

• 7 years of experience in Engineering.

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in designing cybersecurity systems for utility, renewable, and/or industrial HV and EHV substations.

• Ability and readiness to travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel.

• Compliance with company travel and tax regulations.

• Understanding of NERC-CIP standards and guidelines, IEC 62443, or NIST.

• Knowledge of SCADA network architecture, including HMIs, gateways, RTUs, and protocols like OPC and DNP3.

• Experience in constructing scalable and highly available distributed networks.

• Familiarity with IEC 61850-based digital substations, including PRP, HSR, and RSTP.

• Knowledge of cybersecurity equipment such as VPNs, firewalls, routers, and NIDS.

• Understanding of telecommunications equipment and standards like MPLS, multiplexers, WAN, LTE, and 4G.

• PE or P.Eng. licensure, or a willingness to serve as engineer of record or obtain certification within two years.

• Legal authorization to work in Canada or the United States.

• Compliance with applicable U.S. export-control regulations.

• Successful completion of a background investigation.

• For U.S.-based employment, successful completion of a drug screening as required.
