
Lead iOS Engineer – Clinical Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Take ownership of the complete technical architecture for the iOS clinical application.
• Create a data-rich user experience central to the platform, facilitating structured workout delivery and logging (prescribed vs. completed), long-term progress visualization, assessment results, and educational resources.
• Integrate HealthKit and Apple Watch functionality, presenting data derived from wearables—such as activity, sleep, recovery, and heart-rate variability—in a user-friendly, longitudinal format.
• Collaborate with backend and web engineers to establish the API contracts and shared data models that support training programs, assessments, and wearable data.
• Develop real-time pose estimation and movement-analysis features utilizing VNDetectHumanBodyPoseRequest, AVFoundation, and CoreML, enhancing an existing live prototype to clinical-grade standards.
• Work closely with ML/CV engineers on the on-device execution of custom movement models.
• Set iOS engineering standards for the clinical team, including code organization, testing strategies, and release processes, while building on the conventions of our current mobile team where relevant.
• Mentor and assess the work of a junior iOS engineer who will be added to the team shortly after this hire.
• Collaborate with our existing team of three iOS engineers, responsible for delivering our consumer QuadraScan applications, while having the authority to enhance shared CI/CD and release infrastructure to comply with clinical-grade requirements.
• At least 7 years of professional experience in shipping iOS applications using Swift, with a minimum of one production application that significantly utilizes AVFoundation, Vision, ARKit, or CoreML (e.g., real-time camera pipelines, on-device machine learning, or computer vision).
• A comprehensive understanding of iOS architecture, focusing on composition, testability, and modularization, along with the ability to apply these principles appropriately considering the team's maturity level.
• Proven experience acting as the senior iOS representative on a team, offering code reviews, mentorship, and technical guidance.
• Experience working in a HIPAA-regulated environment or the professional acumen to quickly adapt to one.
• Background in healthcare, telehealth, or clinical software, particularly in FDA-related or EHR-related roles (Preferred).
• Knowledge in computer vision, biomechanics, motion capture, or sports science (Preferred).
• Familiarity with integrating HealthKit and Apple Watch (Preferred).
• A history of delivering products that utilize on-device machine learning for safety-critical or measurement-critical applications (Preferred).
