This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Support the Laboratory Revenue Integrity & RCM Manager in overseeing audits and scheduling them.
• Perform coding audits for Laboratory Coding & Billing Representatives and Pathologists, focusing on CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and place of service coding.
• Deliver both individual and group training to team members and Pathologists.
• Execute audits on billing workflows and charge integrity to ensure laboratory orders and charges are accurately transmitted to EPIC.
• Gather and monitor statistics related to the audit process.
• Act as the department's primary coding expert.
• Onboard new billing staff by training them in laboratory coding and billing methods.
• Participate in meetings with Pathologists, LIS, Revenue Cycle, and HIM regarding coding and auditing matters.
• Analyze and interpret billing data to assess and track departmental performance and benchmarks.
• Stay updated on current coding regulations and ensure team members are informed about any changes.
• Analyze coding-related denials, determine underlying causes, and provide leadership with suggestions for resolution.
• Foster collaborative relationships to enhance accurate system configuration.
• Monitor and analyze role functions for reporting purposes.
• Discuss audits and educational needs with the Manager of Laboratory Revenue Integrity & RCM.
• Develop coding guidelines with Laboratory Leadership and ensure timely completion of coding team audits.
• Report any compliance or other issues to Laboratory Leadership as required.
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification from AHIMA.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC.
• Experience in coding.
• Capability to fulfill the essential job functions of a Laboratory Billing & Coding Representative.
• Proficient in CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and place of service coding.
• Familiarity with laboratory coding and billing practices.
• Understanding of current coding regulations and compliance standards.
• Competence in auditing laboratory billing workflows and charge integrity.
• Ability to analyze billing data, performance metrics, benchmarks, and coding-related denials.
• Experience with EPIC and laboratory information systems (LIS).
