This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, and stakeholders to convert requirements into intuitive design solutions.
• Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes utilizing tools like Figma to convey design intent.
• Transform complex workflows into user-friendly, accessible interfaces.
• Contribute to and uphold design systems, UI patterns, and documentation.
• Carry out user research, usability testing, and analysis to guide design decisions.
• Develop research-driven questions to facilitate indirect user discovery when direct access is limited.
• Integrate research insights into actionable design enhancements.
• Design applications in accordance with Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices.
• Act as a resource for accessibility guidance across teams, including developers and testers.
• Assist in accessibility testing, audits, and remediation efforts.
• Convert accessibility requirements and findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Function within Agile teams, incorporating iterative feedback from stakeholders and developers.
• Perform additional tasks as necessary to contribute to project success.
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of demonstrated experience as a UI/UX Designer with a robust portfolio showcasing user-centered and accessible design work.
• Strong grasp of Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles.
• Proven experience in designing accessible interfaces and ensuring Section 508 compliance.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and translate user needs into effective design solutions.
• Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
• Experience working in Agile environments with iterative development cycles.
• Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines and the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS).
• Experience in supporting federal or government projects (VA, DHA, HHS, etc.).
• Knowledge of design systems, design tokens, and scalable UI frameworks.
• Experience with additional tools such as Axure, Miro, Mural, Jira, or Confluence.
• Background in supporting accessibility audits, testing, or remediation efforts.
• Familiarity with SAFe/Agile methodologies.
