This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• The Network Deployment Engineer II is responsible for the design, development, construction, and testing of systems and products utilizing optical, photonic, and laser technologies.
• This role will collaborate with device, hardware, and software design teams to contribute to the comprehensive development of optical systems.
• The engineer will be tasked with specifying, selecting, and qualifying both active and passive optical components.
• Additionally, the position will involve developing and benchmarking system performance models, as well as creating and implementing test procedures and evaluating suitable test instrumentation.
• The engineer will deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production and corporate network and server infrastructure across data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites within the designated region.
• Responsibilities include calculating and documenting equipment power requirements and collaborating with Engineering, Facilities Operations, and/or collocation vendors to fulfill these requirements.
• The role requires participation in project timelines to ensure network activation occurs within expected completion intervals.
• Asset management of networking equipment in data centers and POP sites will also be part of the responsibilities.
• The engineer will actively contribute to the evolution of documentation, automation, and processes.
• The creation of network and server rack face elevations, floor plans, wiring diagrams, and detailed port maps for new deployments and documentation is expected.
• Statements of work for vendors at the POP sites will be drafted by the engineer.
• Preparation of cage and rack designs while comprehending the overall requirements of POP infrastructure is essential.
• The engineer will document and adhere to RMA processes and procedures for all pertinent vendors.
• Adherence to, enhancement of, and implementation of best practices within data centers and POPs are required.
• Necessary escalations to higher support tiers will be provided; the engineer will assist Sales and Customer Support with technical operations and engage with internal departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Close collaboration with Network Engineering, Logistics, and equipment vendors will be necessary as new equipment and technologies are integrated into the production network.
• Internal tools and scripts will be utilized for configuring, monitoring, and repairing servers and network devices.
• The engineer will identify and diagnose various error and failure conditions across a range of server types.
• A Bachelor’s degree (B.S/B.A) from a four-year college or university, along with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to cultivate productive internal and external working relationships.
• Capable of exercising judgment within established procedures and practices to determine the appropriate course of action.
• An understanding of data center network architecture and common issues related to data center networks is essential.
• Familiarity with data center practices, such as cable routing, power usage calculations, and cooling requirements.
• Experience with field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, or central office environments is required.
• Proficient in enterprise and service provider network hardware platforms and architectures, including data center switching platforms.
• A solid and comprehensive understanding of IP technologies such as MPLS, BGP, RSVP-TE, and IS-IS is necessary.
• Basic knowledge of transmission technology and circuit troubleshooting techniques is required.
• A thorough understanding of fiber-optic technology, including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies is essential.
• Proficiency in various operating systems is required.
• Ability to capture and analyze network traffic.
• A strong understanding of queue management for tasks and incidents, vendor engagement, and participation in ongoing POP deployment projects is necessary.
• Demonstrated capability to analyze complex situations and employ troubleshooting skills, systems, tools, and creative problem-solving abilities under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills are essential.
• Experience in engaging with service providers and colocation facilities globally is required.
• Ability to work within a global team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail along with exceptional time management and organizational skills is essential.
• Willingness to travel 20% to 50% is required.
