This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee international direct tax compliance across various jurisdictions, including Canada, the Nordic Region, UK, Europe, and Australia, acting as the main point of contact with external advisors. Additionally, serve as a crucial team member for compliance efforts in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

• Develop strategies, conduct research, and plan for the tax implications associated with global operations, aligning U.S. and foreign tax regulations to create optimal tax planning strategies.

• Assist in the formulation and implementation of corporate restructurings, entity reorganizations, and capitalization strategies. Analyze the tax consequences of structural changes, model different scenarios, and collaborate with Legal, Finance, and external advisors to establish tax-efficient structures across diverse jurisdictions.

• Create and maintain tax systems that utilize AI to enhance strategic decision-making, including cash tax forecasting, scenario analysis, capital structure optimization, thin capitalization monitoring, and assessment of tax implications for corporate transactions and operational initiatives.

• Offer technical expertise and operational support for indirect taxes (VAT, withholding taxes, sales/use taxes, customs duties) across key jurisdictions as required, partnering with local finance teams to address complex issues, ensure timely compliance, and pinpoint optimization opportunities.

• Collaborate with Procurement, Supply Chain, Technology, Operations, Finance, and Legal to assess tax and customs implications of business decisions.

• Work alongside non-tax departments and leadership to facilitate legal entity structuring for new operations and business growth.

• Investigate and pinpoint tax planning opportunities, including incentives, credits, duty relief programs, and treaty benefits, while assisting with existing mining tax credits and SR&ED calculations in Canada, ensuring ownership from research through execution.

• Support tax audits and controversy matters by coordinating responses and formulating technical positions.

• Establish scalable processes and documentation as the organization transitions from exploration to production.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of tax experience is required, with preference given to candidates with public accounting, law firm, and/or in-house experience.

• CPA, JD, and LLM (Tax) (or equivalent) qualifications are preferred.

• Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and international tax frameworks is essential.

• Advanced skills in Excel and familiarity with AI applications are necessary.

• Strong organizational abilities coupled with effective communication and collaboration skills are important.

• Capability to work efficiently across different cultures and collaborate with international teams is required.

• A desire to learn about all facets of mineral exploration, particularly in the field of geology, is preferred.

• Ability to explain technical issues and collaborate on solutions with domain experts outside of the tax or accounting functions is essential.

• Enthusiasm for joining a rapidly growing early-stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and willingness to take on a diverse range of responsibilities are required.

• A strong inclination not only to develop innovative technology but also to determine the best technical products to achieve the company's business objectives is essential.

• A valid passport and a willingness to travel to observe operations at Mingomba or other exploration sites globally. Travel is typically limited to 3-5 trips per year for this role.

• A high level of independence and the capacity to work effectively with minimal supervision is necessary.

• A readiness to tackle whatever tasks need to be accomplished is essential.
