This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Leads and provides expertise in creating a comprehensive workplace health and safety program for community physicians, incorporating OHS Regulations, best practices, policies, and services.
• Oversees the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of health and safety management systems.
• Assists community clinics with workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses; identifies underlying causes and formulates corrective action plans to avert future occurrences.
• Advocates for a systems approach framework to foster a culture of health and safety that transcends mere regulatory compliance.
• Creates and/or suggests tools and mechanisms to assess, monitor, and evaluate progress and educational outcomes; aids those with operational responsibilities in the design or redesign of processes, systems, and tools.
• Develops and communicates metrics related to health, safety, and prevention programming to community physicians, oversight groups, and external partners.
• Tracks performance indicators of various safety and prevention programs and proposes remedial actions to mitigate risks.
• Manages regulatory compliance for community physicians, including investigations and responses to WorkSafeBC and other regulatory bodies concerning orders and reports.
• Collaborates with senior leaders to ensure operational plans align with workplace strategic priorities, consistent with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of SWITCH BC.
• Keeps abreast of provincial health and safety legislation and regulatory changes (e.g., WorkSafeBC); identifies necessary updates for policies and procedures related to community physicians.
• Provides consultation, both remotely and in person, to community clinics deemed high risk or in need of assistance.
• Represents the organization at external forums and committees concerning workplace health and safety, establishing relationships with industry peers and regulatory entities.
• Engages in change initiatives at SWITCH BC and within community physician offices by offering information, training on the CPHS web portal, feedback, and suggestions for enhancing work and team processes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in occupational health or a relevant healthcare discipline.
• Five (5) years of recent experience in developing and implementing occupational health and safety policies and strategies.
• Preference will be given to candidates with Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certifications.
• Occupational health experience across multiple industries is considered an asset.
