This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Overseeing a small product team consisting of 3-5 engineers, both backend and frontend.
• Allocating 30% of time to management responsibilities, while actively engaging in product development within the team for the remainder.
• Participating in the hiring process for their own team and potentially assisting colleagues in their recruitment efforts.
• Responsible for the onboarding process of new engineers, in addition to involvement in hiring.
• Acting as the spokesperson for the team, responsible for managing team dynamics and maximizing individual potential.
• Providing ongoing and constructive feedback across various activities.
• Facilitating continuous growth for the team as a collective and taking responsibility for each direct report's career progression.
• Offering guidance and coaching to the team members.
• Redesigning the engineering workflow with autonomous agents as the standard execution layer.
• Proposing and implementing end-to-end agentic workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify) to enhance outcome delivery speed.
• Creating reusable agentic workflows and primitives within the codebase, allowing teams to leverage them across multiple domains.
• Utilizing verification loops (tests, checks, evaluations, guardrails) to ensure that results are accurate, secure, reliable, and scalable.
• Experience managing an engineering team of at least 2 individuals.
• Extensive knowledge in Backend technologies (Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming).
• Dedication to upholding all of Remote's values within the team and the broader organization.
• Strong engineering principles and a history of delivering production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or similar systems) and enhancing them through iterative processes.
• Ability to think systemically: clearly define specifications, break down plans, implement verification, and ensure quality control.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of engineering and development principles and best practices.
• Proven organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Focused on efficient processes while maintaining a kind, people-first approach.
