This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee, mentor, and coach engineers to foster a supportive and inclusive team environment where individuals find joy in their work and experience personal growth.
• Integrate feedback from engineers, PMs, and leadership into a cohesive, prioritized backlog for the team.
• Facilitate straightforward and effective planning and prioritization to ensure everyone comprehends our objectives and their rationale.
• Enhance remote communication practices to encourage inquiry, context sharing, and prevent isolation in work.
• Collaborate closely with PMs to outline roadmaps, define requirements, and balance product priorities with technical debt and system reliability.
• Participate in in-depth technical discussions with senior engineers regarding architecture, trade-offs, and systems design.
• Promote and exemplify the effective use of AI tools in daily engineering tasks, assisting the team in adopting and continuously improving their use of tools like Claude Code.
• Ensure the reliability, maintainability, and alignment of the team’s systems with our long-term technical vision.
• Establish and monitor team goals, communicate progress and risks to leadership, and strive to become a model team within the engineering department.
• Possess approximately 3–7+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role, with a background as a hands-on engineer.
• Have sufficient technical expertise to engage confidently with senior engineers on architecture and intricate systems.
• Lead with empathy, demonstrate genuine concern for team members’ careers, and maintain a human and honest approach with your team.
• Experienced in conducting performance reviews, navigating challenging feedback, and guiding engineers through meaningful growth.
• Familiar with collaborating with PMs from concept through to requirements and completed work, incorporating user and business perspectives into technical decisions.
• Successfully transitioned a team from conflicting inputs and unstructured work to a clear backlog and efficient, effective rituals.
• Enjoy refining processes sufficiently to enable faster progress, without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Enthusiastic about utilizing AI in engineering workflows, with either prior experience using tools like Claude Code or a strong desire to become proficient with them.
• Prefer to take an active role in problem-solving rather than waiting for others to address issues.
• Excel in remote, startup environments.
• Bonus: possess experience in security, encryption, or systems heavily focused on data protection.
