This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the technical roadmap for Pantheon’s hosting infrastructure, enhancing reliability, scalability, and performance for hundreds of thousands of customer sites and billions of monthly requests.
• Guide and mentor Engineering Managers and senior engineers, fostering a high-performing team with a culture of ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Lead architectural decisions for large-scale distributed systems, emphasizing edge delivery, caching strategies, database operations, and multi-tenant infrastructure.
• Establish and uphold SLOs, observability standards, and incident response practices to ensure platform stability and customer confidence.
• Directly manage critical customer escalations, grasping the technical complexities of customer environments and communicating effectively under pressure.
• Weigh technical debt against platform stability, making informed trade-offs to maintain system health as it scales.
• Advocate for Panton’s technical interests with key technology partners and vendors.
• Promote AI-native engineering practices across the team, incorporating AI tools into workflows, automation, and architectural decision-making.
• Over 12 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role overseeing other managers.
• Experience at a company that provides cloud services, understanding the operational aspects of infrastructure that customers rely on and invest in.
• Demonstrated success in leading high-performing engineering teams through significant technical transformations.
• Exceptional executive-level communication skills, capable of translating intricate infrastructure concepts for product, sales, and executive audiences.
• Extensive experience with on-call operations and managing customer escalations at scale.
• Advanced knowledge of GCP, AWS, or Azure, along with container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes.
• Expert understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and large-scale multi-tenant hosting environments.
• Practical experience with the database and caching technologies that support production web infrastructure: Nginx, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch.
• Strong familiarity with web runtime environments including PHP, Node.js, and related application server technologies.
• Experience with CDN and edge delivery architecture, including caching strategies, cache invalidation, and edge performance optimization.
• Proficient in Go, Python, or other equivalent systems-oriented programming languages.
• Experience supporting AI-native development workflows, including LLM integration and agentic automation.
