Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for multiple production databases across various architectures, including PostgreSQL, AWS Redshift, AWS Aurora, and AWS DynamoDB.

• Utilize SQL and Python to set up ETL processes and ongoing monitoring systems that guarantee database integrity and accuracy, and notify the relevant stakeholders of any issues that arise.

• Revamp existing production database tables and schemas, migrating current data to the new formats without causing downtime.

• Document database architectures, focusing on the ease and efficiency of querying, as well as providing clear explanations of the substantive meaning and proper interpretation of the data points.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required; 10 years is preferred.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Proficiency in SQL, particularly in the variants applicable to PostgreSQL and AWS Redshift.

• Expertise in PL/pgSQL and its advanced features, including variables, conditionals, loops, and error handling.

• Understanding of data normalization concepts, specifically “tidy” data.

• Experience managing databases that contain terabytes of data.

• Familiarity with relational database table attributes such as multi-column indexes, primary and foreign keys, arbitrary constraints, and sequence generation.

• Knowledge of SQL database user permissions, including GRANT commands and ALTER commands as they pertain to permissions.

• Familiarity with AWS Glue in relation to database administration, including external tables, ETL jobs, and stored connections.

• Understanding of user-defined functions in PostgreSQL and Redshift, including those involving AWS Lambda functions.

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases like AWS DynamoDB or MongoDB, along with their data loading and querying capabilities and syntax.

• Experience working within highly secure environments, such as government systems with FedRAMP-high ratings or corporate systems with SOC-2 compliance.
