This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Implement and secure UDS Data Capability within the mission hero's environment.
• Take responsibility for integrating with existing systems.
• Create pipelines that facilitate data movement across classification boundaries.
• Manage the deployed solutions — initial day-2 responsibilities include capacity, performance, backup/restore (Velero).
• Produce accreditation artifacts.
• Act as the representative of the mission hero to product and engineering teams.
• Provide training and knowledge transfer to ensure the mission hero's team can operate independently.
• Mentor junior Data Engineer FDEs.
• Comprehensive knowledge in data engineering.
• Experience with Lakehouse & storage technologies — practical use of Apache Iceberg (or Delta/Hudi), object storage (Ceph/S3-compatible), Postgres (including extensions like pgvector), and at least one columnar/OLAP engine (Trino, DuckDB, ClickHouse, Spark SQL).
• Familiarity with streaming & integration technologies — Kafka (preferably Strimzi on Kubernetes), Flink or similar stream processing tools, and CDC patterns (Debezium).
• Proficiency in pipelines & orchestration tools — Airflow, Dagster, Argo Workflows, or equivalent.
• Knowledge in governance, catalog & access management — REST catalogs (Iceberg REST, Polaris/Gravitino/Nessie family), ABAC/RBAC patterns, OIDC/OAuth.
• Strong data modeling & SQL skills — fluent in SQL and experienced in designing schemas for both analytical and operational workloads.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production — including deployments, operators, CRDs, storage classes, and networking.
• Fundamental understanding of Linux, container runtime behavior, networking, TLS, and secrets management.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar) and GitOps patterns (Flux, ArgoCD).
• Active DoD security clearance is required — TS/SCI preferred; at a minimum, an active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
• Ability to serve as the technical liaison between Defense Unicorns and the mission hero — adept at listening, clear writing, briefing both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and confidently stating "I don't know yet, let me find out" without losing credibility.
• Self-motivation is essential; the mission hero's environment may present unexpected challenges, and solutions may not always be documented — you will be responsible for documenting them.
