Cybersecurity Assessment and Authorization Subject Matter Expert – SME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Acts as a Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Assessment and Authorization (A&A) initiatives supporting DoD information systems.

• Conducts necessary cybersecurity procedures to authorize information systems in line with the Risk Management Framework (RMF).

• Offers technical knowledge for information systems in the authorization process.

• Implements National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53 security controls during the assessment and authorization phases.

• Analyzes cybersecurity requirements across intricate enterprise IT settings, including enclaves, applications, and outsourced IT services.

• Detects security control deficiencies and assesses the severity of vulnerabilities.

• Evaluates the implications of identified vulnerabilities on the current or future authorization of an information system.

• Creates recommendations to mitigate cybersecurity risks and enhance system compliance.

• Updates senior management on the status, progress, and outcomes of RMF and authorization initiatives.

• Ensures adherence to relevant DoD cybersecurity policies, procedures, and security standards.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) years of pertinent experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST Assessment and Authorization (A&A).

• Experience in cybersecurity within the Department of Defense (DoD).

• Proficiency in assessing security controls and performing authorization reviews for large, complex organizations.

• Experience in supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) authorization process, including cybersecurity policies, procedures, and protocols.

• Familiarity with cybersecurity principles pertaining to emerging technologies, such as cloud computing, Industrial Control Systems (ICS), warehouse execution systems, and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructures.

• Must hold an IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive designation or a Tier 3 (T3) background investigation at the time of proposal submission.
