This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• This role involves assisting in cybersecurity initiatives across a range of projects within a portfolio framework and proactively tracking upcoming cyber priorities within the VA Health portfolio.
• Provide consultative support and communicate with the VA regarding issues related to system security certification & accreditation and Authority to Operate (ATO).
• Lead and coordinate security and privacy efforts within project teams while creating security and privacy-related documentation.
• Assess and identify security controls for systems/applications in alignment with NIST SP-800 53 Rev 4 guidance and the VA Handbook 6500.
• Ensure timely delivery of assigned and associated security and privacy documentation.
• Must possess the ability to recognize and mitigate risks affecting the program.
• Proven experience in a remote working environment.
• Capable of proactively communicating and coordinating with various internal and external project stakeholders as needed.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for process enhancement.
• Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.
• Collaborate with a team of other cybersecurity professionals.
• Assist with application development/maintenance and IT operations utilizing Agile methodologies.
• Create and enhance cybersecurity-related documentation.
• Address requests for support in troubleshooting issues.
• Participate in both new and ongoing IT modernization, expansion, and enhancement projects related to security architecture and engineering in support of enterprise operations.
• Assist with ATO processes, and collaborate with the VA ISO/ISSO regarding ATOs, ServiceNow CAM tool, and other security tracking systems.
• A degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Operations Research, or a related field, along with 15 years of experience; 10 additional years of experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
• Strong understanding and practical experience with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), NIST-800-53 guidelines, HIPAA, and the HITECH Act.
• Must have successfully achieved an ATO for projects within the VA or other Federal Agencies.
• Experience in supporting Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation (C&A) and related IA processes, procedures, and activities, with the capability to implement relevant NIST and CNSS IA directives, instructions, and guidelines.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
• Experience collaborating with both internal and external enterprise technologists to resolve complex technical issues.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and to lead collaborations with project team members, program customers, and program and external stakeholders on behalf of the VA Technical Lead. This role requires significant hands-on execution by the candidate.
• Proven experience in a remote work setting.
• Ability to proactively communicate and coordinate with various internal and external project stakeholders as required.
• Security+ or other relevant certification.
• Experience applying security engineering concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments, with exposure to various mission applications.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills.
• Familiarity with the VA Risk and Governance Tool.
