This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee the execution of the Global Trade Management Program, internal trade policies, standard operating procedures, and compliance with U.S. trade regulations.
• Act as the main liaison for U.S. customs, export control, sanctions, and various trade-related authorities, including assistance with audits, inquiries, and disclosures.
• Offer expert advice on import, export controls, sanctions, customs, tariffs, restricted party screenings, and deemed export stipulations.
• Supervise customs entry processes and tariff classification efforts.
• Evaluate and facilitate the release of SAP GTS trade compliance blocks, adhering to internal control and segregation-of-duty protocols.
• Manage the classification of products, software, and technology, including HTS and ECCN determinations.
• Provide training, communication, and practical advice regarding trade compliance obligations, regulatory updates, and areas of risk.
• Identify compliance risks, assist in corrective actions, enhance controls, and promote continuous improvement within trade compliance processes.
• Ensure adherence to relevant external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
• Must possess work authorization that allows employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, international trade, supply chain, logistics, legal, engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in trade compliance, export controls, customs, import operations, sanctions compliance, logistics compliance, or a related area.
• Comprehensive understanding of U.S. import regulations, customs requirements, export controls, sanctions, deemed export rules, and governance of trade compliance programs.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional business stakeholders in a complex multinational setting.
• Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable business guidance, controls, training, and corrective measures.
• Familiarity with trade compliance systems and processes, including SAP GTS or similar trade management tools.
• Excellent communication, judgment, ownership, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Capable of effectively communicating with senior leadership, operational teams, and external entities.
• Proficient in identifying compliance risks, managing escalations, aiding audits, and promoting sustainable process enhancements.
• Preferred: Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Export Compliance Professional, Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer, or similar trade compliance certification.
• Preferred experience with U.S. CTPAT, tariff programs, Sections 232 and 301, trade remedy measures, post-entry reviews, broker management, and customs audit preparation.
• Preferred experience in manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, power systems, industrial technology, engineering, aerospace, defense, or other regulated technical fields.
• Technical knowledge of products, software, technology, engineering data, or applied technologies relevant to import/export classification.
• Experience assisting with technology control plans, deemed export assessments, restricted party screenings, export licensing, and sensitive transaction evaluations.
