• The Compliance Officer engages in various functions across the University, with a primary emphasis on audits and training to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws, as well as accreditation requirements and internal policies.
• Internal Audit Program - 70% Collaborate in the creation and planning of internal audit programs; fulfills responsibilities aimed at achieving the objectives of the Legal and Regulatory Compliance department.
• Conduct independent internal audits, reviews, and investigations within the operational sectors of the University, focusing mainly on the employee's area of expertise.
• Audits may be scheduled or conducted as needed, taking place on-site at different locations or remotely.
• Facilitate training sessions for faculty and staff on regulatory matters, internal controls/policies, and various legal and compliance issues.
• Aid in the development, execution, maintenance, and adherence to policies, procedures, and practices related to compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Responsible for verifying the accuracy of personal work and that of colleagues; ensures compliance with plans, policies, and procedures set forth by University leadership.
• Analyze the outcomes of audit work and prepare documentation to substantiate findings.
• Coordinate compliance information and manage information/records requests for both internal audits and external information inquiries.
• Ensure follow-up on internal audit findings to confirm adequacy and promptness of corrective actions.
• Assess the adequacy and efficiency of internal procedures, systems, and controls.
• Regulatory/Policy Work - 20% Stay informed about current federal and state laws, regulations, and accreditation standards relevant to higher education and corporations.
• Maintain awareness of institutional standards across various operational domains within the University, including specific program standards.
• Assist in managing the University’s student background screening, drug testing, and/or immunization processes.
• Ensure proper and effective representation of the University while engaging with prospective students, current students, community members, and educational officials.
• Exemplify the spirit of the University’s mission and vision through daily activities.
• Foster collaborative relationships with University staff and management.
• Provide valuable input to support the University’s decision-making and expansion efforts.
• Implement and endorse policy and procedural modifications.
• Participate in licensing and accreditation initiatives.
• Other - 10% Undertake special compliance and audit-related projects as required within the Compliance and Legal Department, and occasionally across other departments.
• Contribute to the University’s strategic planning and growth by serving on special task forces, committees, and other developmental groups as needed.
• Support the collective efforts towards campus and University effectiveness.
• Engage in campus and University activities, including meeting professional development criteria.
• Uphold a professional image, demeanor, and workspace.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of four years of experience in conducting audits, reviews, research, and working with regulatory standards.
• Experience in higher education is preferred, but not mandatory.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Strong writing and communication abilities.
• Familiarity with federal, state, or other relevant standards.
• Capacity to build and maintain effective professional relationships and rapport with leaders and employees across various locations and departments.
• Ability to effectively conduct training sessions for University staff and faculty.
• Proficient computer and software skills.
• Capability to make independent judgments and decisions.
• If supporting Financial Aid: A minimum of three years of experience working in a University or University financial aid office.
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations, policies, and procedures related to the awarding and administration of financial aid.
• Experience with CampusVue/CampusNexus.
