This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Prepare and assess intricate property tax returns and workpapers, including filings for centrally assessed and utility-specific cases.
• Supervise the preparation of unitary and multi-state filings for clients in the utility and power generation sectors.
• Review the workpapers and returns of team members, offering technical expertise and guidance.
• Provide advice on the classification and reporting of utility assets across the areas of generation, transmission, and distribution.
• Analyze and apply state-specific methodologies for utility apportionment.
• Examine the reconciliation of property tax returns with fixed asset systems and, where relevant, regulatory filings such as FERC or state commission reports.
• Conduct industry and economic research, focusing on trends and valuation considerations within the utility sector.
• Manage property tax calendars to ensure all filings and payments are completed punctually.
• Oversee the tracking of notices, assessments, and tax bills.
• Review funding requests to ensure effective cash management for client accounts.
• Cultivate and manage relationships with clients, particularly in the utility and energy sectors.
• Lead or assist in the implementation of new client portfolios, particularly for large-scale utility operations.
• Engage in business development activities, including defining the scope of complex utility engagements.
• Lead or support appeals, valuation discussions, and negotiations concerning utility and centrally assessed properties.
• Represent clients during audits and formal appeal processes.
• Collaborate with other service lines to support mutual utility and energy clients.
• Assist leadership with strategic initiatives and special projects.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in property tax.
• Previous supervisory experience is required.
• A strong grasp of utility asset structures and accounting, alongside apportionment methodologies utilized in centralized filings.
• Familiarity with FERC or state regulatory reporting for utilities.
• Proficient in advanced Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with property tax software such as PTMS, OneSource, PowerPlan, or comparable systems.
• Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Willingness to meet travel demands.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Preference for candidates with experience in managing utility, energy, or centrally assessed property tax engagements.
