• Maintain and provide support for a comprehensive payroll application.
• Assist with the database environment.
• Design, develop, and modify software systems by employing scientific analysis and mathematical models to forecast and evaluate outcomes and implications of design.
• Oversee software system installations and monitor equipment operation to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Update existing databases and database management systems.
• Write and code both logical and physical database descriptions, specifying identifiers for the database to the management system or guiding others in coding descriptions.
• Collaborate as part of a project team to coordinate database development and identify project scope and limitations.
• Conduct interdisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and implementation of electronic data processing systems for both product and commercial software.
• Assess computer user needs, analyze system capabilities to address issues relating to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls; prepare operating instructions; design and create compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
• Ensure compliance with software standards.
• Evaluate user needs and software requirements to assess the practicality of design within time and budget constraints.
• Collaborate with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design systems and gather information on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
• Review project requests detailing the needs of database users to estimate the time and costs necessary to complete the project.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Over 4 years of experience with IBM z/OS-based mainframes using COBOL, CICS, JCL, TSO, ISPF, Endevor, and REXX.
• Strong understanding of IDMS database.
• Proficient in designing, coding, and testing software requirements.
• Basic understanding of the complete software development lifecycle, from business/systems analysis to requirements gathering, functional specification writing, development, testing, and delivery.
• Familiarity with development software relevant to systems, such as SQL, Visual Basic, etc.
• Knowledge of Agile methodology is advantageous.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, strong problem-solving skills, customer service orientation, and interpersonal skills.
• Must not have traveled outside the US for a cumulative total of 6 months or more in the last 5 years.
• Must have lived in the US for the past 5 years.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Eligibility to obtain DoD Public Trust clearance.
