This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee, address, and resolve production incidents and operational challenges.
• Manage routine operational responsibilities that currently occupy team capacity, including deployments, configuration changes, access management, and maintenance windows.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, sharing responsibility for after-hours production support.
• Collaborate with support and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve platform-related issues.
• Execute and validate infrastructure modifications in production settings.
• Update and enhance documentation for operational protocols.
• Manage patches, upgrades, certificate renewals, and other recurring operational activities.
• Monitor system health, respond to alerts, and uphold Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Identify repetitive manual tasks and implement automation to eliminate them.
• Develop scripts, utilities, and self-service tools to lessen operational strain.
• Enhance observability to detect issues before they escalate into incidents.
• Minimize friction and manual steps in release and deployment processes.
• Empower developers to manage routine tasks independently of the infrastructure team.
• Transition manual processes into automated, repeatable infrastructure code using Terraform.
• Produce improved runbooks, automation, and workflows.
• Assist in quantifying operational workload and demonstrate its reduction over time.
• Liberate permanent team members to focus on strategic initiatives.
• Support the infrastructure needs of development teams and remove obstacles from their work.
• Document operational knowledge and procedures that currently reside solely in individuals' minds.
• Provide clear documentation and knowledge transfer for systems and automation you develop.
• Engage in team rituals, including standups, retrospectives, and planning, to stay aligned with team priorities.
• 5-8 years of experience in infrastructure, platform, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or DevOps engineering.
• Strong operational foundation: Experience managing production systems and responding to incidents.
• Demonstrated skills in toil reduction: Proven track record of identifying and automating repetitive tasks.
• Extensive expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
• Proficient in infrastructure-as-code, specifically Terraform.
• Experience with container orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Nomad, or similar).
• Familiarity with service mesh and service discovery technologies (Consul, Istio, or similar).
• Experience with secrets management solutions (Vault, Secrets Manager, or similar).
• Strong understanding of monitoring, alerting, and observability principles.
• Comfortable with on-call responsibilities: Experience in incident response and production support.
• Proven ability to quickly onboard and become effective in new environments.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities: Capable of diagnosing complex system issues under pressure.
• Self-directed work approach: Requires minimal supervision for operational tasks.
