This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate the precision, consistency, and adherence of clinical documentation reviews conducted by front-line Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS).
• Foster the professional growth and development of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) team.
• Deliver education aimed at providers to enhance clinical documentation practices.
• Conduct both routine and ad hoc audits of CDI queries, documentation reviews, and EHR entries to ensure compliance with internal standards, industry guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Assess the appropriateness of queries, clinical evidence, and consistency with coding regulations.
• Maintain internal auditing tools and monitor performance metrics.
• Regularly present audit results to leadership.
• Design and implement comprehensive education programs for CDI.
• Develop and sustain educational materials, tip sheets, and query templates.
• Provide focused documentation education through presentations, individual feedback, and coaching on query responses.
• Clinical Documentation Professional credential from the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists must be obtained prior to hiring or job transfer.
• High school diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience, or an associate degree/bachelor's degree, or 4 years of relevant job-specific experience.
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification from ACDIS is required.
• In-depth understanding of CDI best practices, DRG methodologies (MS-DRG and APR-DRG), and coding principles.
• Strong knowledge of SOI/ROM, MCC/CC capture, risk adjustment, quality indicators (PSI, HAC, mortality), and CMS compliance.
• Capability to create engaging educational content for clinical, coding, and administrative audiences.
• Proficiency in audit tools, EHR systems such as Epic, and CDI software platforms like Iodine, 3M, and Nuance.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM/PCS, UHDDS, and CMS coding and compliance requirements.
