Backflow Inspector, Tester

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Conduct inspections and tests on backflow prevention assemblies (RPZ, PVB, DC, SVB) at residential, commercial, and industrial locations throughout Minnesota.

• Execute all testing in accordance with Minnesota State Plumbing Code section 603.4.2 and relevant ASSE standards (1015, 1020, 1047, 1048, 1056).

• Submit finalized test reports to local water authorities and/or utility portals (such as BSI Online) within specified deadlines.

• Affix physical test tags to each inspected device displaying the test date and your license number.

• Identify assemblies that are failing or out of tolerance and accurately document deficiencies in work orders.

• Communicate test outcomes to clients in a clear and professional manner, and coordinate any necessary follow-up services.

• Keep precise records of all inspections, test results, and equipment conditions in company systems.

• Operate and maintain specialized testing gauges and equipment, ensuring that calibration is up to date.

• Collaborate with the service coordinator to efficiently manage your daily route.

• Stay informed on updates to Minnesota plumbing code, local water authority requirements, and ASSE standards.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minnesota DLI Backflow Prevention Tester (BT) certification — necessary for legally testing backflow prevention assemblies in Minnesota (or demonstrable active pursuit of certification).

• Current ASSE 5110 certification — mandated by Minnesota DLI as a prerequisite for BT certification.

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Capability to read and interpret plumbing diagrams, site plans, and equipment specifications.

• Ability to work autonomously in the field and manage a daily service route.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to thorough documentation.

• Over 1 year of experience inspecting or testing backflow prevention assemblies (preferred).

• Familiarity with local water authority reporting portals (e.g., BSI Online) (preferred).

• Experience in fire protection, plumbing, or mechanical systems (preferred).

• Knowledge of fire suppression backflow devices (ASSE 1047 standard) (preferred).

• Proficiency with mobile devices and digital tools for submitting reports and work orders (preferred).
