This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Contribute to the development of the Tailscale product by working on both open source client code and associated backend services.
• Assume responsibility for the complete product lifecycle, from coding to product ideation and strategic planning.
• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers and product managers to define and refine features.
• Place a strong emphasis on creating features associated with identity and access management.
• Work as part of a team of engineers to design, construct, test, and document essential software components.
• Develop product features across areas including our control plane, platform, and identity services.
• Implement features that facilitate a wide array of sign-on functionalities, such as SSO, OAuth2, SAML, and WebAuthn.
• Create and maintain SCIM-style capabilities for synchronizing users, groups, and other attributes from Identity Providers (IdPs).
• Demonstrate ownership over the operational services that make up Tailscale’s product by enhancing observability, participating in incident response, and managing customer support escalations.
• Evaluate and enhance the efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources.
• Adopt a security-first approach in both design and implementation.
• Take part in our on-call rotation every x weeks to triage and address incidents.
• Knowledge of authentication/authorization protocols, standards, and frameworks such as OAuth2, OIDC, SSO, and SAML; familiarity with SCIM is advantageous.
• Experience with distributed systems and the ability to build observable, secure, scalable, and resilient services.
• Proficiency in the Go programming language is a plus, as most non-front-end components of the system are developed in Go.
• Experience with one or more SQL databases.
• Capable of giving and receiving constructive feedback, as well as working independently.
• Adaptability to the fast-paced environment of a startup.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with networking concepts (IP addressing, routing, etc.) is a plus.
