This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Quickly develop AI agents and guided workflows aimed at addressing specific customer challenges; deliver minimal viable products, monitor performance, and refine based on actual usage.
• Create and deploy cloud-native backend services that manage prompts, tools, retrieval, and automation; take ownership of the journey from proof of concept to production.
• Collaborate with data engineering to build efficient retrieval systems for LLMs (search/vector pipelines, context assembly, tool selection).
• Implement evaluation loops including offline/online tests, golden sets, regression checks, and human-in-the-loop reviews to enhance quality and safety measurably.
• Enhance developer experience by creating reusable agents/tools, SDKs, templates, and internal documentation to expedite future projects.
• Work closely with customers and internal teams to define problems, establish success metrics, and convert insights into viable product solutions.
• Facilitate design discussions and code reviews; mentor colleagues and elevate quality standards while maintaining high momentum.
• 4–8+ years of experience as a software/AI engineer, including successfully launching products or features from scratch in fast-paced environments.
• Proficient in Python (and familiar with TypeScript); capable of building production services and integrating with external systems/APIs.
• Demonstrated experience in deploying LLM/agent systems to production (tool utilization, function calling, planning/execution, retrieval-augmented generation).
• Practical knowledge of evaluation (both offline and online), prompt engineering, tracing, and observability for AI systems.
• Understanding of vector databases/search, embeddings, and context/retrieval strategies; pragmatic approach to indexing decisions.
• Strong backend fundamentals (services, queues, data models, CI/CD, cloud) with a tendency to automate repetitive tasks.
• Excellent communication skills and product intuition—capable of translating ambiguous business challenges into precise technical strategies and measurable outcomes.
• Quick to adapt: comfortable with uncertainty, able to prioritize effectively, and skilled in delivering small, safe increments rapidly.
• Nice-to-have: contributions to open-source projects, hackathon achievements, or a portfolio of completed side projects; experience in both early-stage startups and larger systems.
