AI Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and maintain backend systems that facilitate AI-driven insurance workflows in a production environment.

• Create and execute AI orchestration layers that integrate models, APIs, workflows, and business logic.

• Construct inference pipelines for automation systems utilizing LLMs and AI assistance.

• Enhance latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency across AI services (including caching, batching, streaming, and routing).

• Establish stable service interfaces among backend systems, machine learning components, and product APIs.

• Execute observability practices: including logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and incident response workflows.

• Troubleshoot production challenges within distributed AI systems and determine root causes.

• Work collaboratively with frontend, product, operations, and ML teams to deliver comprehensive features.

• Persistently enhance system reliability, scalability, and performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant backend engineering experience in production environments.

• Proven track record in building or managing high-throughput, low-latency services.

• Knowledge of AI Systems (such as LLMs, Embeddings, or AI Workflows).

• Experience with distributed systems and production-level debugging.

• Solid grasp of APIs, data flows, and principles of system design.

• Proficient in using observability tools (including logging, monitoring, and tracing).

• Strong sense of ownership and a proactive approach to delivering results.

• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, globally distributed teams.
