This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
β’ **Key Responsibilities:**
β’ - **Task / deliverable**: Engage in a verbal discussion and prepare a brief written report that examines the existing regulatory framework and evaluates the risks associated with foreseeable changes:
β’ - What are the current regulatory and tax implications for a voluntary carbon market transaction in Malawi?
β’ - How are carbon credits classified as assets, and what are the processes for their transfer and taxation?
β’ *We possess initial guidance from a local law firm, but we aim to verify this information and consult with someone knowledgeable about any anticipated changes to the regulatory framework.*
β’ - **Task / deliverable:** Conduct a verbal discussion and provide concise written guidance (email is acceptable) on:
β’ - The customary land tenure confirmation processes in Malawi and the associated risks (including any ABC concerns).
β’ - What are the typical and appropriate practices for verifying smallholder land tenure?
β’ - Is there a necessity for confirmation from a relevant chief and/or government authority?
β’ - If the consultant can assist the counterparty in navigating any approval processes, that would also be beneficial.
β’ **Experience Required:**
β’ - Significant experience in regulatory and policy analysis pertaining to voluntary carbon markets in Africa, especially in Malawi.
β’ **Technical Requirements:**
β’ - Knowledge of land tenure systems, encompassing both customary and statutory land rights in Malawi.
β’ - Proven ability to deliver clear, actionable guidance to stakeholders.
β’ **Soft Skills:**
β’ - In-depth understanding of climate-related initiatives, carbon credit markets, and the interplay between policy and practical implementation.
