This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.
• The production editor plays multiple roles in preparing editorial content for Hearst Newspapers' print editions, which include:
• Organizing page layouts and sections
• Making decisions on wire news
• Editing copy for print publications
• Editing pages, which involves writing headlines and captions, selecting photos, and adjusting stories to fit.
• Proofreading pages
• Typesetting pages to meet deadlines.
• Depending on the newspaper's size, the extent of editing, and other variables, the production editor may undertake all these tasks for a page, a set of pages, or a section, or may focus on one or two roles within a section or set of pages. Often, production editors will switch between one or two roles during part of their shift and take on different roles during another part.
• Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to transition between roles while varying the depth of editing and finishing are essential aspects of this position.
• Proficient in page layout and section organization.
• Skilled in copy editing, including writing headlines and captions.
• Capable of finishing and typesetting a page on schedule.
• Experience in print news production.
• Ability to collaborate with various products and individuals while maintaining a customer-service focus.
