This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create and manage WQED’s weekly email newsletter, encompassing subject lines, preheaders, headlines, blurbs, calls to action, and fundamental formatting.
• Curate notable features from PBS, WQED local programs, Classical WQED, WQED+, PBS KIDS, events, educational initiatives, and community resources.
• Convert program descriptions, schedules, streaming availability, and internal notes into clear, audience-friendly content.
• Assist viewers and listeners in grasping what is new, timely, local, and deserving of their attention.
• Collaborate with colleagues in Marketing, Programming, Digital, Development, Education, and Classical WQED to gather accurate information and pinpoint priorities.
• Uphold a consistent WQED voice that is warm, neighborly, helpful, Pittsburgh-focused, and rooted in public service.
• Compile and proofread occasional special-purpose emails and announcements related to major programs, station events, fundraising campaigns, or community initiatives.
• Analyze newsletter performance metrics, including open rates, click-throughs, and audience behavior, and leverage these insights to enhance future editions.
• Conduct thorough proofreading for precision, grammar, links, dates, times, channel details, streaming language, and tone.
• Assist in developing standardized newsletter formats, editorial calendars, and workflows that simplify production and enhance value for readers.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
• Strong editorial judgment with the capacity to determine what is most useful or intriguing for the audience.
• Experience in writing newsletters, digital content, program descriptions, arts/culture coverage, marketing copy, journalism, or public media communications.
• Capability to write concise, engaging copy that aids individuals in deciding what to watch, stream, hear, attend, or share.
• Comfort in working with schedules, program details, links, images, and digital publishing tools.
• Experience in reviewing basic newsletter analytics and utilizing performance data to enhance content.
• Keen attention to detail, particularly regarding dates, times, titles, names, and calls to action.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with colleagues across various departments.
• Passion for PBS, public media, local storytelling, arts and culture, classical music, education, and community service.
• Familiarity with Pittsburgh and the southwestern Pennsylvania area is preferred.
