This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +11 more states.
• Take complete ownership of Dutch’s pet insurance vertical from inception to execution, covering strategy, launch, expansion, operations, and financial outcomes.
• Formulate the business plan for Dutch Insurance, detailing the revenue model, margin profiles, strategies for customer acquisition and retention, as well as a long-term growth roadmap.
• Lead efforts to make Dutch Insurance available nationwide, including strategies for launching in all 50 states.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, insurance carriers, brokers, TPAs, and other external partners to ensure that Dutch’s insurance offerings are compliant, scalable, and operationally robust.
• Assess and manage the structures of insurance partnerships, including relationships with carriers, agency/broker models, underwriting partners, claims partners, and potential MGA-style opportunities.
• Define the customer journey across quoting, purchasing, onboarding, claims education, renewals, and ongoing member engagement.
• Work in close partnership with product, engineering, marketing, lifecycle, CX, clinical, legal, and finance teams to seamlessly integrate insurance into the Dutch member experience.
• Build and refine the insurance funnel, focusing on pricing presentation, plan positioning, conversion rates, attach rates, and cross-selling opportunities.
• Manage the insurance P&L, which includes overseeing revenue, CAC, contribution margins, retention, partner economics, and operating expenses.
• Create dashboards, reports, and operational rhythms to monitor the health of the business.
• Identify new growth avenues within Dutch’s existing member base, the new member acquisition funnel, employer/affiliate channels, and strategic partnerships.
• Establish the team, processes, and vendor infrastructure necessary for the vertical’s long-term scalability.
• Act as the internal expert and executive owner for the insurance business.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in insurance, consumer fintech, healthcare, pet care, marketplace, subscription, or regulated consumer sectors.
• Proven experience owning a business line, product line, marketplace, or P&L with quantifiable revenue and margin responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of insurance business models, preferably including carrier partnerships, distribution, brokerage/agency models, claims operations, compliance, and state-specific regulatory concerns.
• Demonstrated capability to build and scale a new business, product, or market from its early stages to significant revenue.
• Highly analytical operator adept at translating data into commercial decisions.
• Strong cross-functional leadership skills, capable of aligning product, marketing, legal, operations, finance, and external partners.
• Excellent judgment in regulated, complex, or ambiguous settings.
• Strong commercial instincts regarding pricing, packaging, conversion, retention, and unit economics.
• Ability to act swiftly while upholding high standards for compliance, customer experience, and operational excellence.
• An entrepreneurial mindset — eager to create the playbook rather than just follow it.
• Effective communicator capable of operating at both the executive/board level and at a detailed execution level.
• **NICE TO HAVES:**
• Experience in pet insurance, health insurance, property & casualty insurance, embedded insurance, or consumer insurance distribution.
• Experience in launching insurance products across multiple states.
• Familiarity with working alongside insurance carriers, MGAs, brokers, TPAs, claims administrators, or reinsurance partners.
• Background in a high-growth startup or marketplace environment.
• Familiarity with subscription, telehealth, pharmacy, veterinary, or healthcare-adjacent business models.
• Experience in constructing financial models, board-level reporting, and business-line operating plans.
