
Cataloging and Metadata Librarian – Part-Time

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Execute original and intricate cataloging using MARC21 for technical reports, archival materials, government publications, and various library resources.
• Conduct copy cataloging adhering to established metadata standards and authority records.
• Create, modify, and sustain bibliographic and holdings records within Ex Libris Alma.
• Implement RDA, AACR2, BIBFRAME, LCSH, and LCNAF standards.
• Catalog museum objects, photographs, archival materials, and historical resources from NIST.
• Prepare digital publications, images, and metadata for integration into digital repositories.
• Carry out quality-control reviews for bibliographic records and metadata.
• Assist in the operation and upkeep of the integrated library system and metadata environment.
• Aid in metadata cleanup, enhancement, and cataloging-related initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with NIST library personnel to prioritize tasks and achieve project goals.
• Generate monthly progress reports detailing completed tasks, hours worked, project status, and any issues encountered.
• Adhere to federal library policies, technical standards, quality-assurance protocols, and project plans.
• MLS degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in library services.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in metadata work and technical services.
• Proficiency with Ex Libris Alma ILS.
• Familiarity with applying RDA, BIBFRAME, AACR2, LCSH, and authority standards.
• Expertise in MARC21, XML, and MARCXML metadata formats.
• Experience with OCLC Records Manager, Connexion, MarcEdit, bibliographic formats and standards, as well as authority files.
• Knowledge of an online integrated library system, including OCLC WorldCat and WorldShare systems.
• Experience with command-line scripting, batch scripting, XSLT transformations, and regular expressions.
• Previous experience or coursework in original and copy cataloging.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Understanding of professional library theories, issues, and trends.
• Proficiency in solving cataloging-related problems.
• Sound judgment based on logical reasoning and cataloging principles.
